Il primo progetto di scavo risale al 1487 quando il governo veneziano propose lo scavo di un canale navigabile che favorisse il commercio e l’agricoltura, partendo da Gemona del Friuli e sfociando nel mare. A causa di varie vicissitudini, tra cui il conflitto con i Turchi, il progetto fu subito accantonato. Successivamente l’idea con alcune modifiche al percorso venne ripresa nella seconda metà dell’Ottocento dall’ingegner Giovanni Battista Locatelli e trovò la sua realizzazione tra il 1878 e il 1889. Nel 1908 vennero ultimati i lavori dell’officina elettrica di proprietà del Cotonificio Udinese, costruita nella zona di confluenza del torrente Patòc con il torrente Corno. L’intento della proprietà era quello di fondare in loco un grande opificio e di creare quindi posti di lavoro. L’idea però, a causa di alcune poco chiare problematiche, svanirà ben presto e con essa anche la possibilità per il Comune di riservarsi il diritto della fornitura dell’illuminazione pubblica e della derivazione dell’acqua fino al centro del paese.
HYDROELECTRIC POWER STATION
The Ledra canal, which crosses the municipality of Rive d’Arcano, boasts five centuries of history: the first excavation project dates back to 1487 when the Venetian government proposed the digging of a navigable canal that would facilitate trade and agriculture, starting from Gemona del Friuli and flowing into the sea. Due to various vicissitudes, including the conflict with the Turks, the project was soon shelved. Later the idea, with a number of alterations to the route, was resurrected in the second half of the 19th century by engineer Giovanni Battista Locatelli and was implemented between 1878 and 1889. In 1908, work was completed on the electrical workshop owned by Cotonificio Udinese, built at the junction of the Patòc stream with the Corno stream. The owners intended to establish a large factory on the site and thus create jobs. However, due to certain unclear issues, the idea soon faded away, along with the possibility of the municipality reserving the right to supply public lighting and the right to divert water to the centre of the village.

Der Ledra-Kanal, der das Gebiet der Gemeinde Rive d'Arcano durchquert, kann auf eine fünfhundertjährige Geschichte zurückblicken: Das erste Aushebungsprojekt geht auf das Jahr 1487 zurück, als die venezianische Regierung die Aushebung eines schiffbaren Kanals vorschlug, der den Handel und die Landwirtschaft begünstigen und von Gemona del Friuli aus ins Meer münden sollte. Eine Reihe von Ereignissen wie der Konflikt mit den Türken führte dazu, dass das Projekt sofort fallengelassen wurde. Später wurde die Idee mit einigen Änderungen am Verlauf in der zweiten Hälfte des 19. Jahrhunderts von dem Ingenieur Giovanni Battista Locatelli wieder aufgegriffen und zwischen 1878 und 1889 realisiert. Das Wasserkraftwerk im Besitz des Cotonificio Udinese (Baumwollspinnerei Udinese) wurde in der Gegend errichtet, wo die Sturzbäche Patòc und Corno zusammenfließen und 1908 fertiggestellt. Die Absicht der Eigentümer war es, ein großes Werk vor Ort zu errichten und Arbeitsplätze zu schaffen. Die Idee wurde jedoch aufgrund einiger nicht plausibler kritischer Aspekte bald wieder verworfen. Die Gemeinde verlor damit die Möglichkeit, die öffentliche Beleuchtung sicherzustellen und Wasser bis ins Ortszentrum zu leiten.
